"Is It Worth It To Be Faithful?"
AM
  Genesis 27, 39, 40 | Bob Rutherford, Pastor
It is possible for believers to ask, "Is it worth it to be faithful?" In continuing hard times we may not see God working in our lives, and in good times it is possible to attribute our success to our own efforts. This study takes a look at the life of Joseph in the Old Testament who spent many years in hard times. The scriptures assure us that God is with us and He is working in our lives even when we don't see it. Scriptures are also clear on the rewards received by those who are faithful, in this life and the next.

"The Miracles of Christmas" - Part 2
AM
Matthew 1:18-2:9 | Bob Rutherford, Pastor
"The Miracles of Christmas" - Part Two is about the miraculous birth of Christ. There are several miraculous births in the Bible but the birth of Christ is different and crucial to believers. Our pastor reveals the importance of the incarnation of Christ and, the most important miracle of all, the salvation of mankind.

"The Miracles of Christmas"
AM
Matthew 1:18-2:9 | Bob Rutherford, Pastor

"The Purposes of God"
AM
  Jeremiah 29:11, Isaiah 7:11; 9:6 | Bob Rutherford, Pastor
It can be difficult for the human mind to understand how God accomplishes His plans with so many bad things happening around us. Circumstances today are not unlike events in the past. God's timing is perfect, even in the details of the believer's life. God uses both good and evil influences to accomplish His purposes, and God's ultimate will always comes to pass.

December 1, 2013:
"The Baptism and Filling of the Holy Spirit"
AM
  Acts 1:5, 2:4; 1 Corinthians 12:12-13 | Bob Rutherford, Pastor
This message discusses the difference between the "baptism of the Holy Spirit" and the "filling of the Holy Spirit." Believers in Christ are automatically baptized into one Spirit and one body, the universal church of Christ, but scriptures reveal that believers should be part of a local church. "The filling of the Holy Spirit" is defined as allowing the Holy Spirit to control a believer's life. Using scriptures, our pastor discusses how a believer can be baptized but not be filled by the Holy Spirit.

November 24, 2013:
"Overcoming Challenges To Be Thankful"
AM
  Nehemiah | Bob Rutherford, Pastor
Living a thankful life can be hard when faced with difficult circumstances. Bob Rutherford examines passages from Nehemiah, who faced sorrow and frequent challenges during his life. This message also reveals how habits, thoughts, and a sin life can rob us of joy and God's abundant blessings.

November 17, 2013:
"The Baptism of the Holy Spirit"
AM
  Matthew 3:11, 1 Corinthians 2:12-13 | Bob Rutherford, Pastor
Our study on God's Holy Spirit continues by examining scriptures that explain who baptizes us in the Holy Spirit and when this baptism take place. Some believers read these scriptures and conclude there are different kinds of baptisms, and their opinions differ on when a believer receives the Holy Spirit. Dr. Bob Rutherford explains these scriptures in detail and the difference between the Old Testament baptisms and the baptisms that occur after Pentecost in the book of Acts.

"The Baptism and Filling of the Holy Spirit"
AM
Matthew 3:11-12, Acts 2:1-4 | Bob Rutherford, Pastor
Who, or what, is God to you? Many people have different answers. Even believers have ideas that are not based in scripture. These ideas and beliefs leave many believers in confusion and cause those without Christ to reject the Lord. This message stresses the importance of Biblical teachings about the Holy Spirit and what it means to us.

November 3, 2013:
"Two Questions"
AM
Luke 1:11-19 | Bob Rutherford, Pastor
Our pastor's study on the Holy Spirit continues with two questions: When does the Holy Spirit come into a believer's life, and will the Holy Spirit ever leave? There are scriptures that can lead a believer to conclude that the Holy Spirit can enter a person's life at birth and that it can be taken away from us. These scriptures are explained in detail along with the difference between believers in the Old Testament and believers described in Acts chapter two, after the crucifixion, resurrection, and ascension of Christ.

October 27, 2013:
"A Call To Commitment And Assurance"
AM
Hebrews 10:26-31 | Bob Rutherford, Pastor
There are Biblical evidences that believers cannot lose their salvation. Our pastor continues his study on the role of God's Holy Spirit in the believer's life. This message is entitled "A Call To Commitment And Assurance" because believers that live in a deliberate and willful state of sin act as the enemies of God described in Hebrews chapter ten and can face serious consequences both here and at the Christian judgement. Questions are also provided for those who state that one can lose salvation.

October 20, 2013:
"Our Security In Christ"
AM
Hebrews 6:4-8 | Bob Rutherford, Pastor
Can believers lose their salvation in Christ? Our pastor continues his study of the Holy Spirit and this issue. He presents more scriptures that are used by some that say believers can lose their salvation. Dr. Rutherford explains these scriptures in context and discusses how Christians living in a state of sin and rebellion can harm the witness of Christ.

October 13, 2013:
"How Safe Are We?"
AM
  Ephesians 1:11-14; 4:30 | Bob Rutherford, Pastor
Can you lose your salvation in Christ? Everything in life that we have can be lost. You can lose your health, your wealth, your eye sight, your hearing, your mind, your family, your job, etc. Using certain scriptures, some Christian groups teach that you can lose your salvation. Our pastor addresses this issue and places these scriptures in proper context before continuing his study on the Holy Spirit.

October 6, 2013:
"The Holy Spirit's Work In Salvation"
AM
  2 Timothy 1:14; Titus 3:3-7; Ephesians 1:11-14; 4:30
Bob Rutherford, Pastor
Our pastor continues his study on the nature of God, beginning with the Holy Spirit. In this message, he explains that without the Holy Spirit one cannot be saved from sin. The Holy Spirit convinces us that Jesus is the Savior and brings life when we trust Jesus as Savior. The Holy Spirit applies the cleansing that the blood of Christ makes possible for us, and He keeps us secure in our salvation.

September 29, 2013:
"The Holy Spirit"
AM
Deuteronomy 6:4 | Bob Rutherford, Pastor
There is only one God, but scriptures indicate three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Yet they are One. The human mind has difficulty accepting the eternal and triune nature of God. Many questions have been asked about God by believers and non-believers alike. Our pastor begins a study on the nature of God beginning with the Holy Spirit.

September 22, 2013:
"The Words We Speak" - Part 2
AM
Ephesians 4:29 | Bob Rutherford, Pastor
The power of life and death is in the words we speak. Our pastor continues his study in Ephesians chapter four on "The Words We Speak." Scripture reveals that unwholesome speech is listed among the sins of greed and immorality. Believers should know that unwholesome speech, grumbling, complaining, slander, gossip, and similar behavior should not be ignored or dismissed as what some may call "minor" sins. This behavior is serious and provokes God to anger. It also reveals the condition of our hearts. For part one of "The Words We Speak" see September 8, 2013.

September 15, 2013:
"Leah"
AM
Genesis 29-30 | Dr. David Whitlock, President of OBU
Leah, the first wife of Jacob, is a woman recorded in Genesis who at first glance seems to live a sad life. Translations of the Bible describe her as "depised" or "unloved." She lived her entire life in the shadow of her younger sister with hopes and desires that seem to go unfulfilled. If one examines closely all that is recorded of her, she is a hero of faith. Regardless of our circumstances, our hurts, or our deepest desires, we can know from Leah's life that: God sees our circumstances, God hears our prayers, God joins, God is to be praised, God rewards, and God endows with everlasting blessings.

September 8, 2013:
"The Words We Speak - Part 1"
AM
Ephesians 4:29 | Bob Rutherford, Pastor
The saying "sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me" has been around for decades. It is also contrary to what the Bible teaches. The power of life and death is in what we say. As Paul writes to the Ephesians about spiritual maturity, his next stop is the words we speak. The first part of this study covers unwholesome speech.

September 1, 2013:
"Work - God's Plan For Mankind"
AM
Ephesians 4:28 | Bob Rutherford, Pastor
In Ephesians chapter four, after the apostle Paul's reproach about stealing he writes to believers about work. Work is to be enjoyed and is God's will for our lives. It is beneficial not only for us but for others. Some believe work is a result of mankind's sin in Genesis chapter three. This message takes a Biblical view of work and reveals the incorrect perceptions surrounding it.

August 25, 2013:
"Thievery"
AM
Ephesians 4:28 | Bob Rutherford, Pastor
The subject of theft is Paul's next stop in our study of Ephesians 4:25-28. Stealing is more than taking money or possessions. "Thievery" reveals how we can steal someone's reputation, joy, marriage partner, and more. In just four verses, Paul lists the character traits of Satan, the first liar and the biggest thief of all. These passages are written to believers so that they may evaluate their relationship with Christ Jesus.

"Combustible"
Anger
Ephesians 4:26 | Bob Rutherford, Pastor
Before conducting a study of anger in our lives, our pastor thought it best to have a study of God's anger. It is true that God loves us but the Bible makes it abundantly clear about the anger of God. Many people, including believers, live carefree taking life and eternity for granted because they do not understand the subject of God's anger. This study reveals the truths and the misconceptions concerning the anger of God.

"The Truth Factor"
AM
Ephesians 4:25-32 | Bob Rutherford, Pastor
As we continue our study in Ephesians, we come to the subject of truth as Paul describes what is necessary for growth and maturity in a believer's life. Truth is essential for unity and joy. The Bible gives warnings of what happens when we reject the truths about God and our savior Christ Jesus. Our pastor discusses how even believers can wander from the truth and the consequences that will result.

AM

God promises a transformed life to each believer, but some believers wonder why their lives have not changed. Change only comes from God. Believers cannot change themselves. This study reveals practices and thought patterns that hamper God's work in a believer's life.

"Spiritual Maturity - Is It Happening For You?"
AM

It is God's will for each believer to mature in their faith. If we are not maturing spiritually we are walking in darkness. So how does one mature spiritually? "The Walking Dead: How To Avoid Becoming A Christian Zombie"
AM
Galatians 2:6-21 | Jay Ramer, Minister of Adult Education
Once a Christian, believers have the tendency to slip back into old habits. The jewish believers in the church in Galatia had this problem. Believers today still have the same problem. The simplicity of Christ's sacrifice on the cross is all we need. There is nothing to add to make our faith complete.

God's people are instructed to remember His power and deliverance in their lives. Memorial Day should be more than just a time when we briefly pause and reflect on the sacrifices made by our armed forces.
