"Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world." - James 1:27. The Hebrew word for orphan, yatom, often meant “fatherless.” Thankfully, in modern countries, relatively few parents die before old age but every day children are losing their parents through abuse, neglect, drugs, and the hopelessness of a life without Christ. Currently in Oklahoma there were 10,233 children in state custody. As of 2014, there are 1,813 BGCO congregations, comprised of 614,882 members. If each church reached out to 6 children, our orphan crisis would be over.

Just because you aren’t called to foster or adopt, that doesn’t mean you can’t make a difference in a child’s life. Consider wrapping around foster & adoptive families by providing childcare, meals, encouragement and prayer – and be a blessing to those families in your community. Work together as a family, small group, or church. For more information about how you can be involved, reach out to Meadowood Orphan Ministries and go to "I Care About Orphans."
